Our Cardboard Kiosk

The design and fabrication of the Kiosk was supported by Exeter Northcott’s Get Creative programme. Through this funding, and with the help of 12 friends of the Exeter Seed Bank, we commissioned Exeter-based designer Herman Castaneda’s design, which we can take to our public engagement events. Herman has also designed the current exhibition boards which feature how different types of seed are saved, and a selection of stories from the Storied Seed Bank.

The kiosk is designed to be flat packed and assembled without the use of additional fixings. We specifically chose the material of durable, thick, corrugated cardboard for its versatility and compostable properties: at the end of its life, the kiosk will not enter the waste stream.

Information on the kiosk will grow and change over time and reflect different themes and projects around seeds and wider urban environmental stewardship issues.

The Kiosk has been shown at various venues including Exeter Cathedral, Exeter Central Library, part of RAMM Lates at the Royal Albert Memorial Museum, and Maketank on Paris Street.
